The metro highway bookshelf represents an organic amalgam of the metro grid and roads. Shanghai metro map was selected and transformed into a bookshelf form. Tire marks were applied to its floor skins, which then imply the road surface. The intrinsic geometry of the metro lines provides voids for books and etc. Each void is uniquely formed as lines merge and interact each other. Tire marks add dynamic flows and aesthetic pleasure to the metro grid.
Yongwook Seong is an award-winning designer, whose interest lies in architecture, furniture, industrial design and etc.
Yongwook Seong is a Master of Architecture student at UBC, Canada. He is interested in transgressive architecture. His transgressive approach is to deconstruct dualism or dichotomy in our mode of life and create a grey space and time in a society.
