Alice Le Biez 3D Crafts Bowls
3D Crafts Bowls is Silver Design Award winner in 2014 - 2015 3D Printed Forms and Products Design Award Category.
3D Crafts Bowls

Alice Le Biez, French young designer has realized a set of three bowls, printed in 3D ceramics. The shape of each bowls reminds traditional ceramics technique. She created with her project an illusion of a hand-made bowl by the design but also by the making process. Her 3D printing object explores the link between traditional skills and new technologies and demonstrates that designer can use the new technologies as a tool to go further in their work and discover a new field of creation.

With three different backgrounds : _ Diploma in Arts and Crafts at the Ecole Boulle of Paris, France _ Bachlor in Industrial Design at the ENSAV La Cambre of Brussels, Belgium _ Master in Product Design at the MMU School of Art of Manchester, UK Alice Le Biez explores the link between crafts and design, traditional skills and new technologies. She believes that traditional skills can allow the designer to explore new fields of creation by using new technologies such as 3D printers. A 3D printer is mostly use to create complex shapes but can also be used to create stories, emotional design such as traditional crafts.

Alice Le biez

Alice Le Biez is a young designer, graduated in 2014 of the Manchester Metropolitan School of Art. During her master, she explored the link between traditions and new technologies. She realized that with 3D printers allows designers to create complex shapes but at the same time, a lot of people don't give value to these objects because of the materials and the technique. As a craftman-designer, she believes that new technologies can be used as a tool to create valuable objects, full of passion, full of emotions. By combining her crafts backgrounds with what she learnt for a Master, she printed products which look like hand-made product.
