Szabolcs Nemeth Wormy Compact Fishing Systems
Wormy Compact Fishing Systems is Golden Design Award winner in 2024 - 2025 Outdoor Gear and Camping Equipment Design Award Category.
Wormy Compact Fishing Systems

The Wormy compact modular fishing rod was invented by Szabolcs Nemeth. He created an almost unbreakable fishing system that is usable for many fishing methods. Its tiny size allows you to take it anywhere. Can be used for casting from shore, fishing from boat, kayak or Sup. It is suitable for ice fishing in winter and snorkel fishing in summer. This is truly year round fishing equipment. Thanks to the removable trigger, it can be equipped with all existing reel types. We can swap out spring rods with different sensitivities. It is extremely durable, so it will serve its owner for a long time.

A compact fishing rod has to meet the same challenges as any multi-tool or as a Swiss army knife: to be multifunctional, small, and durable. Nowadays, we can choose from millions of special fishing rods. Most of them are better suited to the fishing style they are designed for than their compact companion. Therefore, never expect a compact device or tool to be the best in any category. However, there are circumstances and locations where it performs better than a conventional device. The goal was to design a rod that has several ways of usage with the smallest possible size and minimum weight for the sake of durability. Modular: All system components can be fitted together with the other components. With this feature, this is the world's single modular fishing rod. Its components can be purchased one by one, or the package can be extended at any time with additional spring poles and grips. Its central element is an aluminum, CNC-machined reel seat from which the trigger can be pulled down, making it suitable to receive lower-positioned reels besides upper-positioned ones. There is a threaded shaft hole at the end of the centerpiece into which we can screw in various types of handles. The cylindrical grips' size is adjustable. In the socket, at the other end of the reel seats' axis, different spring poles can be fitted. Spring-poles: The casting distance - depending on the casting weight - rivals that of 2m long traditional rods. The six different kinds of flexible spring rods correspond to six different fishing rods. The mechanical properties are shaped by three factors: the diameter of the material they're made of, the number of spring-arc bends, and the length. All of them can be inserted into the grip into two slots, enabling the use of both upper and lower positions reel. We designed it in a way that we can enclose the spring arcs with a rubber ring, minimizing the chances of folding the line. The use of the rubber ring is not a prerequisite for effective operation, but it is recommended in some cases – depending on the fishing method, the line, the reel, and the casting weight. In the upper position, you can use the poles without having to compromise - whether it's a spin cast or a bait cast reel. When we're casting it or winding it up, the line will spin around steadily with bigger reels,, too, but in that case, it's advisable to use a smaller one. In the lower position, the best operation can be achieved with "underspin/trigger spin" reels. In the case of these types the line "flows" through a hole with a narrow diameter, while in the case of the fixed-spool types, it's spinning down in larger arcs. If we use a too-big spool reel, the fishing line winding may be uneven because the line between the coil and the spool will move on a too-large scale. The smaller the diameter of the spool, the more uniform the winding of the line will be. Casting distance: The short size of the device allows you to cast not only from above but also from the side or bottom. By moving our wrists, we can significantly increase the impetus of the throw. The spring – like a catapult – launches the bait.
