Yuki Ijichi Redesign of Kurojyoka Drinkware
Redesign of Kurojyoka Drinkware is Golden Design Award winner in 2024 - 2025 Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design Award Category.
Redesign of Kurojyoka Drinkware

This is a redesign of the kurojyoka, a traditional Kagoshima shochu ceramic teapot, to fit modern lifestyles. The traditional Kurojyoka was formed based on the Japanese hearth heating system, and its shape has remained the same despite changing lifestyles. This project is a continuation of Kagoshima's shochu culture and traditional craftsmanship by modifying this aspect and updating the kurojyoka to fit modern lifestyles.

MATHERuBA

On a hilltop overlooking Sakurajima.
MATHERuBA (meaning “a mingle place”) is located in a place where you can enjoy the four seasons of Kagoshima. It is a place where Kagoshima's “people,” “objects,” and “things” are all connected. The cafe “MATHERuBA cafe” serves dishes carefully prepared with ingredients produced in Kagoshima, and original products and selected Kagoshima products. The store “MATHERuBA gift” sells traditional Kagoshima crafts and a selection of lifestyle goods and clothing from Japan and abroad. MATHERuBA, with its café and store, connects people to each other through interaction with “truly good things” and “makers,” and offers time to carefully color your life in the midst of nature.
