A harbor symbolizes the desire for freedom, a sentiment reflected in this residence overlooking Kaohsiung Port. Designed as both a retreat and guesthouse, the home takes inspiration from a vessel at rest, maintaining a connection to its maritime surroundings. The design softens structural lines and adopts a neutral palette, allowing attention to shift naturally toward the large windows. From this vantage point, the sea, the setting sun, and passing ships become an integral part of the living space.
Sen (forest), represents the language of returning to nature, where the harmony of the natural world inspires a deeper connection to the environment and a simpler way of living. Yi (city), is the framework that guides design practice, providing the structure within which creativity thrives. However, design practice is not rigid, it is shaped by curves and demands, influenced by the evolving needs of both individuals and society. The true essence of design is to find a balance between the artificial and the natural, to use creativity to blend and return to nature in a way that enhances daily life.
"Sen (forest)" is the language of returning to the nature, and "Yi (city)" is the framework of design practice. However, practice is curve and demand, to return to the nature with the creative aesthetics of life. Through integration and creativity, designers piece together the puzzle of return, so that design and life coexist.
