The design uses an umbrella-shaped structure to distill the collected rainwater into potable water through solar energy. The structure could be widely replicated in Cairo and throughout the developing Islamic region to alleviate local water scarcity problems. Muslims pray five times a day, so mosques in neighborhoods like this are the most frequented public places for local residents. The design of the distillation system here also takes into account the habits of the local residents.
