Dorota Dyk Medapti Oral Medicine Syringe Adapter
Medapti Oral Medicine Syringe Adapter is Bronze Design Award winner in 2020 - 2021 Baby, Kids' and Children's Products Design Award Category.
Medapti Oral Medicine Syringe Adapter

Medapti, an adapter for oral baby syringes, was designed to provide users with a simple to use tool to make administering medicine more efficient than the conventional method of using a syringe alone. Simplicity and safety were the core elements behind the design. Medapti is a one-piece product composed of a soft mouthguard and a tube where a syringe is simply pushed inside after it has been filled with the dose of medication. The adapter's unique shape not only stops the syringe going too far down the mouth but also directs the syringe to the cheek, instead of the back of the throat.

Medapti

Dorota Dyk, a mother-of-two invented Medapti, adapter for oral syringes, designed to make it easier to administer medicine to babies and children who refuse medication. The idea came to Dorota after she struggled to give medicine to her children when they were babies. She, like many other parents, had a number of concerns: if she squirted the medication outside of the mouth, she may give the incorrect dose; and if she shot the medication in too fast, her baby might choke. She went through many different types of medicine dispensers, and each one was as troublesome or ineffective as the last; either too messy or difficult to use, or not suitable for small babies that didn’t take dummies or bottles. Dorota knew there had to be a safer and easier way to get the medicine into her child’s system, so she created her own, in the form of an adapter for oral syringes. Medapti offers the following benefits: •Simple - just slips onto the end of the syringe •Direct - helps direct medicine to baby's cheek, not the centre of baby's mouth •Position - helps keep the syringe in baby's mouth •Softer - gentle on mouth and gums •Less mess - reduces spills and leaks The current concept of administering medicine by a hard plastic syringe is used by millions of parents in the UK, but this innovative adapter will make dispensing medicine more practical and easier for parents and carers, as well as babies, making it a less traumatic experience. It will also reduce medicine wastage. Medapti concept gained interest in hospitals like Great Ormond Street, Alder Hey, Sheffield and Manchester Children's Hospitals. It also received a positive feedback from parents and has been featured widely in the British and international media. The vision is that Medapti will not only become a must-have baby care item but also a hospital tool, helping to administer medicine to babies, premature infants, disabled and elderly. The product has a granted UK patent, design registration and trademark and many others pending.
