A huge screen, an attraction screen with moving chairs and water and air, a three-sided screen, and eight regular cinemas. These special cinemas offer a very advanced and futuristic experience when watching a movie. This space design gives an image of the future that sets it apart from many store designs that use organic materials these days. You can feel the spaceship and architecture of the near future in the white space where the curved walls are dotted with blue LED line lighting and monitors. The design raises expectations for the movie work to a high level.
I would like to know that how our design concept will be evaluated in the world, so that is reason why I am interested in A’ Design Award. Our design concept is not only for spatial or material issue but also for relationship or environment of neighborhoods, or region. We strongly thought that this cinema should be there generating brand-new involvement of people, tenants and cinema. If we won a prize whatever, that would be the proof our concept global, not only accepted in Japan.
United Cinemas has a history of being founded in the UK by Hollywood majors Paramount and Universal in 1985 and starting as a Japan branch of a chain store that has expanded around the world, including Europe. Currently, it is managed with the capital unique to each country. The expansion in Japan has expanded every year from the first store that opened in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture in 1996.IMAX has 8 screens, ScreenX has 3 screens, 4DX has the largest number of 21 screens in Japan, 1 screen for the first dining cinema in Japan, and also operates art screens and animation screens. At our movie theaters, we think about the concept for each store and change the design. That is because there is an idea that a movie theater should be built that meets the needs of the local people and the concept of commercial facilities. We carefully consider the characteristics of commercial facilities and regions, consider whether the design style and philosophy of architects and designers match the concept of commercial facilities and the design direction we seek, and select designers for each property. We employ not only space designers but also leading designers such as graphic designers, textile designers, and lighting designers for each property. This act is to create a new movie theater that suits the times. Now, Our Cinema chain has 43 cinemas / 389 screens / 73,672 seats in Japan. A Capital of one hundred million yen. 2,400 employees.
