A modern conversion of a dated tract home is now home to a family whose goals were to capture the city views and have a seamless connection from interior to exterior. This project exemplifies the potentials of a well though out remodel. What the original house once lacked is now in its past. Natural light floods all interior spaces. Composed volumetric interiors have established hierarchy and order to the home. Large openings now face the dominate view and can open up to connect the exterior to the interior.
This project was realized for a design minded couple moving from New York back to LA. Making the transition back to sunny California, the couple had visions of keeping doors and windows open year-round. Self-proclaimed foodies, they were looking forward to weekend gatherings and being able to entertain inside and out. They purchased a home that had the square footage and lot size they wanted but lacked the aesthetics, flow and functions they sought. Without adding a square foot, the house was transformed from a generic tract home into a custom, warm and modern home that fully encompasses the family’s way of life.
