About Ammi Lahtinen : Ammi Lahtinen, a distinguished 36-year-old Finnish textile designer, brings over a decade of professional experience and a solid educational background to the forefront of her designs. With a passion for weaving and textile printing ignited at the age of 16, Ammi's journey of creativity and learning has taken her from vocational schooling to a BA in Textile Arts, enriched by a student exchange in London, and culminating in a Master's degree in the same field.
Recognized by her peers as a captivating blend of creative ingenuity and systematic precision, Ammi's approach to design harmonizes the realms of artistry and technical guidelines. As she describes, "One can have the passion to create, which can be for the sole sake of art, self-expression, and admiration of beauty – but as a professional textile designer, I can turn the individual sketches into a production-ready color-coordinated collection that follows the possibilities and limitations of the chosen production machinery."
Ammi's reputation is built upon her ability to deliver breathtaking pattern designs tailored to the specific needs of her clients, leveraging her adept use of color palettes and talent for creating cohesive pattern collections. With a keen eye for detail and a visionary grasp of the broader design landscape, Ammi is committed to delivering excellence in every project she undertakes. If I had to pick out just one favorite type of pattern, I would choose florals – but I prefer to think of collections as entities. For example, floral designs pair up well with abstract and detailed surface-like designs. My designs often combine inspirations from the city environment, like architectural details, and from the countryside and nature. For me, the timeless and enduring design does not mean only solid-colored items or classic stripes and checks. I think it is important to reflect your persona and create a mood that makes you feel good at home or in your clothing style. When the products fit the wanted mood and bring joy to their users, that's when they gain meaning. The textile industry has a strong season and trend thinking. I find those inspiring too. With trends, I mean both colors and themes and deeper meanings, the wide-scale changes in the world, and innovations. As a designer, I follow trends through my lenses so to speak, and filter out inspiration that fits my work and taste. That is how I wish people to act with their purchases too: Don't buy anything for the sake of buying something new or trendy, but to find the items that speak to you. All the things that follow your aesthetics and values, are the ones that feel good in your home and wardrobe.
