About Sanaz Hassannezhad : I’m Sanaz Hassannezhad, an award-winning designer based in London, with a background in Industrial Design and Design Innovation. I’ve won 19 international design awards across 8 competitions. My work spans product design, lighting, sustainability-driven fashion accessories, and user-centered design. I’ve collaborated with companies in the UK including Domino’s and William Joseph, and I’m also the founder of ReliqueLondon, a sustainable brand focused on transforming old and sentimental textiles into luxury pieces with zero-waste thinking. My contribution is clear: I build design that blends function, storytelling, cultural identity, and responsibility, creating work that is not only visually strong, but socially meaningful and future-aware. Design, for me, is not decoration. It’s decision-making with consequences. Every object, interface, space, or system shapes how people live, behave, and even what they accept as “normal.” That’s why I take design seriously. It’s not just about aesthetics, it’s about clarity, meaning, function, and impact. Art is different. Art doesn’t need to solve anything, and that freedom is powerful. Art can be messy, emotional, symbolic, personal. It can exist simply to express truth, memory, beauty, protest, or identity. But when art and design meet, something special happens: you get work that feels alive, functional, but also meaningful. My perspective is simple: design should work, but it should also speak. I don’t believe in products that look “nice” but have no soul. And I don’t believe in concepts that look poetic but are useless in real life. I aim for the middle ground where intelligence meets emotion, where every detail earns its place. I’m drawn to design that carries narrative and purpose. That’s why sustainability matters to me, but not as a trend or a marketing word. I care about it because waste is bad design. If something is produced without responsibility, without thinking about materials, lifespan, and afterlife, then it’s incomplete. True design thinking doesn’t stop at “launch.” At the end of the day, I design to create objects and experiences that feel intentional. The best work, in my eyes, is clean but not cold. Minimal, but never empty. Innovative, but still human.
