About Huiying Fu : I am Stephanie, founder of Biggest Little and a passionate advocate for using thoughtful toy design to create harmonious family spaces, encourage child-led development, and promote stress-free parenting. With a background in finance and a commitment to early childhood education, I channel my design passion into solving parenting frustrations and promoting eco-friendly practices in the toy industry. My work bridges functionality and aesthetics, blending children's and adult spaces while fostering sustainability. Recognized by experts and praised for innovation, I strive to transform children's toys into delightful, beneficial tools for families and the planet. STATEMENT OF ART:As a full-time mother and a design enthusiast, my journey through both the toy maximalist and minimalist worlds has profoundly shaped my view of children's toy design. When I think about design and art, I envision a harmonious blend of functionality and beauty, where every element serves a purpose while evoking a sense of wonder and delight. Every object that we introduce into a child's environment holds the potential to make a significant impact on their development. It shapes their creativity, problem-solving abilities, aesthetic sensibility, and overall well-being. From this perspective, design is not merely about creating aesthetically pleasing objects; it is about enhancing everyday experiences and fostering a deeper connection to our surroundings. In my role as both a mother and a designer, I have observed how the right toys can unlock a child's innate curiosity and encourage them to explore the world around them. A well-designed toy serves as more than just a source of entertainment—it becomes a tool for learning, imagination, and growth. It is essential that these toys are not only engaging for children but also delight the parents, creating a shared joy in owning and experiencing the object together. A good toy design should embody simplicity and versatility, allowing children to use their imagination to discover new ways to play and learn. It should challenge them to think creatively and solve problems, fostering their development in a holistic manner. The design should be intuitive and inviting, encouraging children to engage with it naturally and joyfully. Moreover, the aesthetics of a toy play a crucial role in this process. A beautiful, thoughtfully designed toy can inspire a child's sense of wonder and appreciation for the world around them. It can teach them to value good design and to seek out beauty in everyday objects. This, in turn, nurtures their aesthetic sensibility and helps them develop a refined sense of taste and style. From my experience, I have also learned the importance of sustainability in toy design. As parents, we want to provide the best for our children, but we must also be mindful of the impact our choices have on the planet. Designing toys that are durable, eco-friendly, and made from safe, non-toxic materials is essential. These toys should withstand the test of time, allowing children to enjoy them for years while reducing waste and promoting a more sustainable lifestyle. In essence, my perspective on design and art is deeply intertwined with my role as a mother and my passion for creating meaningful, impactful toys. I believe that every object we introduce into a child's life is an opportunity to shape their development positively. By combining functionality, beauty, and sustainability, we can create toys that not only delight and engage but also inspire and nurture the next generation. Through thoughtful design, we can enhance everyday experiences, foster creativity and problem-solving abilities, and cultivate a lifelong appreciation for the beauty in the world around us.
