About Huiying (Stephanie) Fu : I am Stephanie, founder of Biggest Little and a passionate advocate for using thoughtful toy design to create harmonious family spaces, encourage child-led development, and promote stress-free parenting. With a background in finance and a commitment to early childhood education, I channel my design passion into solving parenting frustrations and promoting eco-friendly practices in the toy industry. My work bridges functionality and aesthetics, blending children's and adult spaces while fostering sustainability. Recognized by experts and praised for innovation, I strive to transform children's toys into delightful, beneficial tools for families and the planet. STATEMENT OF ART:As a mother and design enthusiast, my journey through both maximalist and minimalist approaches to childhood has deeply shaped how I think about design and art—especially in the context of toys. To me, design is not just about how something looks; it’s about how it functions, how it makes you feel, and how it shapes everyday life. When art and design are in harmony, the result is an object that quietly elevates our daily rituals—especially those shared between parent and child. In a child’s environment, every object carries weight. Toys aren’t just “things”—they are tools for growth, imagination, and connection. Design, then, becomes a responsibility: to create objects that are both beautiful and deeply purposeful. The toys we give our children influence their creativity, aesthetic sensibility, and ability to problem-solve. Good design doesn’t shout; it invites. It gives space for the child to be the creator. From my dual perspective as a mother and a designer, I’ve seen how a well-designed toy can unlock a child’s natural curiosity and encourage independent exploration. A toy should not dictate how it’s used. Instead, it should be open-ended—simple enough to adapt to different developmental stages, yet versatile enough to spark new forms of play each time. This kind of thoughtful restraint allows children to engage deeply, think creatively, and learn on their own terms. But great design isn’t only for the child—it should resonate with the parent, too. When an object delights both generations, it fosters a shared joy in the home. A toy that’s well-made, visually appealing, and easy to maintain can shift the atmosphere of a space and ease the mental load of parenting. That’s where design becomes emotional. I also believe aesthetics play a vital role in shaping a child’s worldview. Exposure to beauty, form, and balance from a young age encourages a lifelong appreciation for design and art. When children grow up surrounded by objects that are considered, they learn to consider the world in return. Design becomes a quiet teacher. Sustainability, of course, must be part of that conversation. As parents, we want to offer the best to our children—but not at the expense of the planet they will inherit. That’s why I believe in designing with durability, safety, and sustainability in mind—using non-toxic, eco-friendly materials that last. A well-made object should live through multiple stages of childhood and even be passed along, not tossed away. In the end, I see design and art as vehicles for values. At its best, design helps children grow into thoughtful, curious, creative people. Through simple, beautiful, and intentional objects, we can create more space—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally—for children to thrive. That is the kind of design that matters most to me.
