Besides her design skills, she also has a manual work background that enables her to design, plan and produce projects from the beginning to the end. She sees design as a chance to react to all kinds of issues we are facing these days. Finding solutions to such issues, that also enrich everyday life through an appealing aesthetic, is what she loves.
For me, the biggest difference between art and design is the motivation that lies behind the creation process.
Art is more about self expression. It is about transforming personal emotions, experiences or thoughts into something that others can relate to and reflect about. There is no need to fulfill any external criteria. The goal is to communicate personal topics and provoke emotions at the beholder.
Design is aiming for solutions. There are endless topics and problems that can be solved through design. The goal is to create an easy or practical or functional or elegant (…) solution depending on the focus of the project.
During the design process there are always some ground rules to keep in mind because at the end every project is supposed to solve a certain problem or fulfill a special use. This may sound a little cold and technical but there is another very important component of a design process for which a huge amount of sensitivity and aesthetic awareness is needed. All this functional solutions have to be integrated into a self-consistent, harmonious system or appearance.
The workflow during a design process can be as intense and self involving as creating an art work but the focus does not lie on personal examinations the designer always has to see the big picture and remember witch goal he is aiming for.
