She is a communication designer, non-narrative experimental director and animator who has been actively making and exhibiting art for sixteen years. Her filmography includes short film My Mountain, 7 Cycles, Zarra and the Alberta Media Production Industries Association, AMPIA award winning SIJJIL and OPPO.
Yasmin inspires audiences with her organic process using the principles of nature.
Her approach combines the physical science and spiritual science together with opposites states such as living and inanimate, beauty with tention, colour as light and texture with movement to create abstract symbolic art. Yasmin P. Karim considers design a chance to manifest essence into form, an opportunity to create new functional objects that can enhance, improve and open new possibilities of awareness, exploration, and discovery. Design in the context of print is visual poetry of words, form, perceptual values and aesthetic beauty that combine elements to bold elegant layouts, typography, photographs, illustrations and colour to bring together pattern and meaning. Art to her is a means of expressing spiritual values, insights and building new connections. A relationship between the visual medium and the viewer. She is inspired by the potential of human soul, and the capacity of art and design to create wonder and awareness. Nature is the frame wrok of her design and the the starting point to search, explore and understand the moving patterns, beauty of symmetry and asymmetry composition, harmony and rhythem of colours, texture and space. How can words end up as light? How can an inanimate object, a design or a painting, transform into light? Her current work is about balance based on symbolism within abstractism which is explored with colour, light, and textures, based on the search of “What is Soul” and how the physical and spiritual science are connected together to complete the circle of manifestation, unfolding and enfolding new beginningless and endless possibilities of ideas, new knowledge, and universal meaning.
