My firm specializes in interior architecture with an emphasis on custom millwork and furniture design. Much of my work involves collaboration, such as the piece I've submitted, that I designed with artist Henri Priess. I have also been a design educator for past 15 years. I currently teach upper level design studios in the Interior Architecture program at Columbia College Chicago.
STATEMENT OF ART:My design practice applies concepts of materiality, form, light and abstract composition, across scales ranging from residential architecture to furniture and product design. I enjoy the challenge of problem solving, such as with tight urban spaces that require solutions of multi-functionality.
The past 15 years as an educator have also had a profound influence on my work, as I am continually researching and understanding new thought systems and approaches to design, such as biomimicry, systems thinking, sustainability, and civic engagement. My greatest source of inspiration, however, comes from collaboration, both within and outside of my discipline(s). My work has included projects with fashion designers, fabricators, artists and engineers, pushing my practice outside of its pre-defined structure in order to produce more innovative, relevant and interesting work.
