About Nina Edwards Anker : Established in 2006 by Nina Edwards Anker, NEA Studio focuses its work in architecture, furniture/product design, and landscape planning. Edwards Anker’s contemporary design works have been widely published and exhibited. The office has broken ground with a LEED certified residence in Long Island, to be completed by 2018. The designer's Landscape Sofa won the 2015 Good Design Award Chicago Atheneum Museum of Architecture and Design. She received her PhD in Architecture in 2016, and teaches environmental architecture and design at NYU Gallatin. STATEMENT OF ART:NEA Studio continues to design, develop and exhibit solar lights and furniture while practicing architecture. With a focus on sustainable design, the practice operates in an environment in which project management and implementation takes place in parallel with model making, prototyping and experimentation with ideas, materials, and manufacturing processes. The office maintains a cross-disciplinary nature where research and sharing ideas is an essential part of work philosophy. I seek to explore the potential affectiveness of environmental design. I draw from an interdisciplinary set of research methods, drawing from the disciplines of architecture, design, electrical engineering, philosophy, science, architecture/design history and theory. My designs range in scale from products, furniture, architecture, to urban/landscape installations. My research examines the interconnected challenges of architecture, design, sustainability and perception, with a focus on: 1) architecture and design that revolve around light, combined with innovative use of materials, and 2) balancing the multiple, and often competing objectives of sustainable architecture and human wellbeing.
