View Larger Image and Additional Photos of Nina LievenAbout Nina Lieven : Studio Lievens interest is in re-imagining the nature and re-constructing it through the human perceptual vehicles, like geometry and science.
To understand nature scientifically human need to construct a system that divides its complexity and explains it.
Having that in mind my work tries to re-imagine the concept of natural phenomenon and re-construct them into every-day objects.
Dividing nature and its phenomenon into bits and pieces and re-assembling it understandable, usable and relatable objects is the methodology of the work.
Design needs a focus in a philosophy, meaning or purpose. My design is deconstructing the nature and re-imagines it into a human made form. This form communicates with the user.
To understand complexity of nature, it needs to be divided into a molecular level, into very specific phenomena. That is the zooming in part of the process. When I go down to that level I breath, observe, network. Then, I translate this raw environment to the language of science, geometry, usability. For me this process and outcome is the design itself.
The result is an experience-object that carries experience-memory of this practice.
