About Joseph Koizen : I served my country for over 20 years and now in my post-Air Force life I want to explore my creative side a bit more. Living in Austin has provided an opportunity for to become a real estate developer. Having designed and built two LEED Platinum homes, I found a passion for building responsibly and with the environment one of my primary concerns. It is in this that I began to see the potential for re-purposing construction materials into something like the i-Lamp.
I like figuring out how things are made. As a home builder, I can watch a project from acquiring the land, designing it, and finally constructing and selling it. Along the way there are many opportunities to build responsibly, to divert waste materials from landfills and to be environmentally responsible. Given this, i'm constantly on the look-out for construction materials that can be re-purposed into something new. This is how the i-Lamp came about.

I exhibit my pieces in my garage and in my home. I often give pieces away which are exhibited in my friend's homes.
I've never exhibited before. This is the first time I've submitted anything I made to a competition.
I have never participated in an event.
This is the first competition I've entered.
I have some academic accomplishments but not on anything that I've designed and built before. I'm simply doing this as a hobby from my garage.
