About Stanley Clayne Sandström : Stan is the epitome of an “accidental artist.” It’s not an accident that Stan understands the significance of smart design and the joyful freedom that uninhibited artistic creativity offers. Stan has experienced the costly devastation of bad ideas, yet he continues to build, design, and create. Stan has always been drawn to and inspired by art and design. Stan is trained in both mechanical engineering and architectural design, and appears enthusiastic about his altruistic and entrepreneurial approach to his life and career. It is his resilient spirit, tenacious ambition, and artistic motivation that draw the Accidental Artist to this competition.
STATEMENT OF ART:
Creativity―building, cooking, painting, sculpting, education, personal development, and family are all messy―Create anyway! The creative process is messy and full of failures and shortcomings; that is the process of creating. Creativity is an active and dynamic process involving testing, sampling, and analyzing―to discover what works, what is pleasing, and what represents the reality of your true vision and personal aspirations. Creating is to uncover the balance between inspiration and reality, to discern everything that most fully expresses our dream and having the courage to discard all that is distracting, destructive and undesirable. The power of art and design is the ability to convert thought, feeling, and inspiration into tangible shapes, visual beauty, and palpable melody in unique and inspiring ways. Design and artistic expression is the ultimate expression of thought and esteem for material, technology, process, and the user. The best of design and artistic expression is not found in the inspiration, from which the product springs into life, but rather in the feelings it evokes, the thoughts that echo in the mind, and the emotion ignited by its use. Design exists all around us, from the simple curves of a paper clip, a beautifully prepared meal, or a sleek and powerful airliner. Design is in the shape, size, materials, and the unique combination of each element. Great design reflects the objective of the designer to meet our needs and fulfill our wants. Whether manmade or created by nature, design impacts life and the world around us. Design, flows through us, intelligence acting on element, impacting our experience and the interaction is an integral part of human experience. In its attempt to perform a function, meet a need, solve a problem, or create beauty, design is a noble endeavor of service to others. Art and design, in their many forms, offer a new and unique paradigm. Art and design encourage creative focus, artistic voice, and the expression of deeply held hopes and dreams. While scale, weight, color, proportion, intensity and duration all play an important role in art and design, ultimately, art’s success will be judged and remembered by its lasting impact. Within each of us is the power to create beauty and to become beautiful by the things we create.
