About Brian Boggs : Brian has designed and built chairs for some of the most highly regarded furniture experts in the world. Most notable include the late Sam Maloof, who won the MacArthur Genius Grant for his work in woodworking and furniture design, Frank Pollaro, CEO of Pollaro Custom Furniture and celebrity designer, and master woodworker Christian Becksvoort.

Brian is also a machine designer and tool maker. Lie-Nielsen owns the rights to Boggs shave horse and 3 spokeshave designs, which are sold, used and praised by professionals and amateurs alike globally. There are many happy owners of Boggs Spokeshaves, including former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.
STATEMENT OF ART:
I envision designs that often run outside of what tradition would do. But with a clear understanding of materials and process, I design new ways to make unusual forms or to make chairs unusually comfortable. This will sometimes require development of a new technique, a new tool, or even a new custom machine. It’s all part of creative design and I feel quite at home in it all.

In another vein I have taught over a dozen workshops in Honduras on a Peche tribal reservation as a project of PDBL; a joint rainforest management initiative of Canadian and Honduran govt. forestry departments I also taught several workshops in Peru, both in the Lima area as well as deep in the Amazon region where I was working with a Yanesha tribe. This was not a workshop in the traditional sense. I was charged with designing products and teaching a group of Yanesha how to make these in their primitive work spaces. I have been on a teaching hiatus for the past few years, so all of these are from prior to 2012.
