Founder & Creative Strategist – Tony Hughes Design (Freelance) – UK/Latvia (Remote) Sep 2012 – Present

Lead end-to-end creative direction for a freelance consultancy serving international clients across fintech, technology, and creative industries.
Develop branding, visual identities, and digital product designs for 50+ projects – from grassroots startups to global blockchain organizations – ensuring each brand’s message and visuals are powerful and cohesive.
Notable work includes crafting brand strategies and UX designs for fintech and blockchain ventures (e.g. Japan Blockchain Association, crypto platforms) as well as creative campaigns for SMBs in healthcare, aviation, and entertainment, demonstrating versatility across industries.

Creative Strategist (Design Lead) – Soramitsu – Tokyo, Japan & Riga, Latvia Jun 2016 – Mar 2019

Served as the sole design lead for a Japanese fintech/blockchain company, directing all marketing design, product UI/UX, and brand identity development for Soramitsu and its offshoot projects built on the Hyperledger Iroha platform.
Shaped the visual identity and user experience of two core product lines: a digital asset management/payment solution and a blockchain-based digital identity platform (with integrated KYC compliance), ensuring cohesive branding and intuitive interfaces across products.
Collaborated closely with international teams and stakeholders, delivering design solutions that supported business goals and helped position Soramitsu as a trusted innovator in the fintech market.

Social Media Marketing Manager – Files.fm – Riga, Latvia Aug 2018 – Apr 2019

Managed the social media and digital marketing strategy for Files.fm’s blockchain-based Library project, aiming to build an online sharing platform.
Created and curated content across multiple channels to drive community engagement and crowdfunding support, leveraging industry insight in blockchain to grow the project’s visibility and user base.
Achieved significant traction for the initiative by tailoring messaging to tech-savvy audiences and collaborating with the development team on promotional campaigns.

Senior Design Manager (Consultant) – San Jose, CA (Remote) Dec 2017 – Mar 2018

Brought on as a design consultant to develop a proprietary cryptocurrency concept for an energy-focused tech company.
Conceived the “SIM BOX” smart junction box and its gamified energy-saving platform, integrating persuasive UX design and data analytics to encourage users to reduce electricity consumption.
Produced concept prototypes and visual designs that helped Simmitri pitch the idea to stakeholders, showcasing the potential of blockchain and IoT for promoting green energy use.

Creative Director (Consultant) – Blocksafe Foundation – Latvia (Remote) May 2017 – Jan 2018

Led the creative direction for Blocksafe, a startup developing blockchain-enabled smart gun technology, in a contract role.
Developed a cohesive branding ecosystem for this pioneering project, including logo, visual identity, and marketing materials that communicated security and innovation.
Worked with a multidisciplinary team to align the product’s technical vision with a clear, impactful brand story, aiding in investor presentations and public launch materials.

Creative Strategist – NEM.io Foundation – Remote (Latvia) May 2015 – Feb 2017

Directed global branding and visual strategy for NEM, a leading blockchain fintech platform (valued at over $1B), as part of the foundation’s core creative team.
Spearheaded design direction for all marketing and branding assets – from websites and infographics to event booths – which helped elevate NEM’s international brand recognition during a period of rapid growth.
Designed key user interface elements for NEM’s web and mobile applications, focusing on user-friendly layouts and consistency with the brand’s identity.
Supported the development of sub-brands and spin-off projects (e.g. LuxTag, NEM Malaysia, Apostille), creating logos and visual guidelines that maintained a unified ecosystem appearance.
Earlier Experience: Held early-career roles in project management and digital media, including a stint at Samsung Electronics (Seoul) as a presenter and content creator for viral marketing campaigns (2007–2008).
