Interview with United Design Practice at Friday 22nd of April 2016 FS: What is "design" for you? UDP: Design is not an output. It is a way of thinking. Design is a way of life, it is and should be accessible to everyone, and everyone should be able to find joy and fulfilment in it. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? UDP: Joy. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? UDP: Pride. Like a parent when a child does well. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? UDP: There are a thousand and one ways to look pretty. Whether the design is effective is ultimately decided by the target audience, the end users. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? UDP: To provide solutions first and foremost. On a higher level, to influence society at large with progressive values. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? UDP: Design comes to me wholly formed in my mind.
