RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Prelude to the design development, the team studied the building base of this project and discovered that this long, rectangular shape building base could be traced back to the long street house in Taiwan. The long street houses were a unique housing union typology built alongside commercial canals with two sides of open windows and doors where people conducted commercial activities, and the main family living area was based on the second floor. Therefore, in this project, the design team challenges to design that pays tribute to the implication of old history in Tainan by applying this unique methodology to only use two sides of open windows to develop this project.
CHALLENGE: In order to conform to the concept of a neat visual style and utilize colors and materials as mediums to enhance the living experience, the construction primarily focuses on the details that emphasize the exact line expressions and underlying materials characteristics. Several re-assemble processes were inevitable to ensure project quality and rationality.
