| DESIGN NAME: ReRoot PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential House INSPIRATION: Inheriting from the bloodline of the previous generation, this project covers the owner's memories of growing up as a child, especially the spirit of deferred thoughts and culture of the loved ones. We hope to the chisels this old space to fit family context in the future living purpose. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: When considering a renovation, a designer needs to integrate the new needs and ideas of the occupants with the existing conditions of the old space. To provide more diversified purposes, and use novel design methods to bring out the space different looks and meanings. In this case, the space also serves another emotional aspect, a childhood memories from the owner who inherent the apartment from his parents. How to reconstruct the space with preservation of his emotional connection become one major challenge of this project. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: We overthrow the original space partitions and moving lines, but choose to keep parts of exposed reinforced concrete, a resemble of his origin and a Root to childhood memories of the owner. A loving space where he grew up and supports him to become who he is today, an architect. Simplicity is the best note for the homeowner. In the transformation of perception into spatial shape, the limitations of hue, material and space height are integrated, and finally the life, memory and continuation of the resonance given by the space are depicted. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: To retain the essence of the old era and bring out the embodiment of contemporary design, we must let the hardware and building materials, air and light of the home space, and the abstraction of continuity and inheritance, be integrated into the design through the perception and touch of the living experience. Using the nature of the structure, it guides the three characteristics of simple, natural and individual into a design. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This project is about 149 square meters, located in Taipei City. TAGS: Interior Design, Residential, House, Space RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The project is located in Taipei City, the capital of Taiwan, one of cities which needs for renovation. In this project, we wish to find a balance between retain and repurposing of an old apartment which contained so much personal memories, yet need a modern space for the new leaves and memories to grow. CHALLENGE: With confining the electrical and water ducts to the very small space below the ceiling, the design successfully creates an opening space with high ceiling to embrace and welcome the new family members.
