DESIGN NAME: 6280.CH
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Hub
INSPIRATION: 6280.ch coworking hub is a new venture of a Swiss furniture maker whose former factory is located in a picturesque village in Central Switzerland. Set among mountains, lakes and endangered plants, the design of the hub is inspired by the nature and culture that surrounds the village and the traditions of furniture manufacturing that once took place in this former factory and warehouse space.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: It was very important for the client to set themselves apart from other coworking hubs and retain the distinctly local feel in the interior design. Designers researched local lakes, mountains and plants as well as clients archives for historic images of the buildings industrial past and highlighted these local characteristics into the design concept that reflects Swiss mountain pastures, lakeside, wooden farm buildings, endangered plants, and furniture making traditions.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: 6280.ch is a contemporary and inspiring space that is rooted in its locality but is also designed to cater for modern workers, no matter what task is at hand, with spaces where tenants can work either individually or in a team, host events, workshops or product demonstrations. The kitchen area functions as a space for large team meetings, but is also fully equipped, allowing coworkers to cook, eat and socialize together.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2019 in Hochdorf and was completed in June 2019.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: As the client is a furniture manufacturer, most of the furniture pieces, including metal work, acoustic panels and lampshades, were designed and custom made. An old joiners bench was recovered from the storage and converted into a communal dining table. A former shipping container has also been upcycled and converted into a diner style meeting pod. Old photographs from clients archive were used for the production of wall graphics and lampshades.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The floor area is 1000 square meters.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Located in the village of Hochdorf, 6280.ch is based in a former factory and features private offices, coworking spaces, conference rooms and common areas, including a shared kitchen. The buildings original high ceilings and tall windows on two sides flood the space with natural light and highlight the buildings industrial past. A color scheme of blue, muted green, violet and yellow is complemented by wooden floors and felt acoustic panels to create a comfortable and inspiring working space.
CHALLENGE: The former manufacturing space with its high ceilings and spacious rooms was not used to its maximum capacity and occurred unappealing for coworking. The challenge was to fill the space with different exciting and comfortable zones that naturally flow from one into another, encouraging coworkers to explore different work areas within the hub, and at the same time give the hub its distinct local character of picturesque Swiss countryside with strong traditions and culture.
