| DESIGN NAME: Good Fortune Gourd PRIMARY FUNCTION: Jewellery INSPIRATION: The inspiration comes from the images on the Big Gourd Bottle with two Chinese characters "Big Fortune" collected in the Palace Museum, Beijing. "Gourd" is an auspicious pattern in Chinese tradition. Big Gourd Bottle symbolizes prosperity and harvest. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: "Gourd" is a homophone for "Good Fortune" in Chinese. Unique style of the gourd shape for this jewelry series lies in the "Good Fortune" hidden in the gourd and the design of the abstract and enjoyable curves closely follows the shape of two Chinese characters of "Big Fortune". 3D printing technology is used in this 18k gold series, and it can greatly improve efficiency of the jewelry processing workshop. The series accompanied pearls includes two ways of wearing necklace, earrings and finger ring. It's a creative combination of Chinese good meaning, multiple wearing manner and new industrial technology. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This series jewelry includes necklace, earrings and finger ring, accompanied by pearls on both sides of gourds, meaning "Responsive and good luck" from the idea of Chinese tradition. For necklace you can wear it with the pearl put inside the gourd, or you can take out the pearl to use as a pendant. For pearl earrings, the ear studs could be independently placed on the ear of one side, showing the beauty in balanced asymmetry, compared with the earring on the other side of the ear. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Unique style of the gourd shape for this jewelry series lies in the Good Fortune hidden in the gourd and the design of the abstract and enjoyable moldings closely follows the pattern of the two Chinese characters of "Big Fortune". In the meantime, the vines form on the top of gourd borrows from Ruyi, an S-shaped ornamental object (usually made of jade) mostly seen in the imperial palace. Ruyi is a symbol of good luck. 3D printing technology is used in this 18k gold series, and it can greatly improve efficiency of the jewelry processing workshop.
