| DESIGN NAME: Taste Buds Travel Taiwan PRIMARY FUNCTION: Souvenir INSPIRATION: Tourists often buy souvenirs when they are traveling, things that are for using or for eating are the main choice. Therefore, having these two combining together might be a perfect souvenir for tourists. The package is for Taiwanese flavor cookie, using Taiwanese national flower plum blossom window cut as the cover, that lets tourists bring memories and Taiwanese culture home to share with families and friends. There are also 4 paper coasters with different Taiwanese tile patterns composed of signature cookie ingredients to emphasize the flavor of cookies inside the box. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This Taste Buds Travel Taiwan Souvenir is a gift for tourists, let them bring the joy and the memories back home to share with their family and friends. Not just cookie but also a gift which the Taiwanese tiles style paper coasters contain inside the box, it also can tell the flavor of the cookie with description at the back. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Open the Box and you will see 4 paper coasters with different Taiwanese tile patterns design which emphasize the flavor of cookies inside the box. And could enjoy the cookie with a cup of tea putting on the top of the paper coaster. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in November 2018 in Taiwan and finished in October 2019 in Taiwan, and was lunch at Feds Xinyi A13 AUNT STELLA in Taiwan in December 2019. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Photoshop Illustrator SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 190 mm x Depth 190 mm x Height 40 mm TAGS: Taiwan souvenir, Taiwan Tiles, Cookie Package, Coaster, Plum Blossom RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In the beginning, I search the element that represents Taiwan, and I found out Taiwanese Tile is starting to shine in different ways. So, I went to the Chiayi Museum of Old Taiwan Tiles to do some research about the layout and design of it. On the other hand, Contact with the Print Factory to discuss the package, we try lots of mockups, to present the user experience of opening this package. Finally, come up with this idea, cutting four plum blossom shape window to seeing a little part on the outside box, and when open can foud out four coasters and the cookie inside. CHALLENGE: The hardest part of this project is finding a way to let the coaster stay still while moving the package. After different testing, we use the paper of the box to make a foothold for the coaster. NAME: STELLA'S TAIWAN INC. PROFILE: Aunt Stella, born in German growing up in the US, is the real aunt for brand founder Joseph Dunkle. As a Kindergarten teacher, she was fond of sharing her homemade recipe and handmade cookies with people surrounded. Joseph started up the first cookie store in Tokyo named after Aunt Stella since 1982 to inherit and deliver the recipe and spirit of his aunt, who’s passion of ‘Giving love and happiness to people’‘ is forever imprinted in our DNA. The recipe and gift package went so popular among Japanese that more than 80 stores have been opened up-to-date. With the new headquarter started up in Taiwan since 1989, Aunt Stella turns a new page in the cookie business. We combined local featured ingredients with Aunt Stella homemade recipe, building-up local design and R&D team to re-package ‘love sharing and giving’ spirit with Taiwan featured and share with the world again. |
