PRIMARY FUNCTION: Smart Parcel Locker
INSPIRATION: In today's world, the number of cargo deliveries is considerably increasing so the companies have to deliver to various addresses every day. Besides cargo receivers have to be dependent on a specific location. Thus, designed to provide a practical and safe solution to cargo firms and a user-friendly experience and 24/7 service to its customers, RovLocker adds aesthetic and functional value to public spaces.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The smart parcel locker has two types modules: main and parcel. The parcel module is formed by assembling the inner and outer cabinet together with special electromechanical locks instead of using any fasteners on the outer interface. Thus, RovLocker has a seamless, minimal and anti-vandal design that adds aesthetic and functional value to public spaces. In addition, in cases of installation, maintenance and repair, the inner cab can be pulled out from outer cab by opening the special locks. This means that the locker can be installed in various public areas, as there is no need to reach the back of it.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: RovLocker's parcel module consists of inner and outer cabinet. The cabinets are mounted with electromechanical locks which can only be opened by authorized persons and inner cabinet can be pulled forward from the outer cabinet during installation and maintenance/repair. Thus, maintenance/repair works can be easily done and the product can be aligned to the wall in the installation areas since there is no need for rear access. In this way, it can be installed in various fields.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project started in January 2018 in Ankara and finished in September 2018, and was firstly exhibited in October 2018 in Hamburg Post Expo'18. Serving in many places since the beginning of 2019, Rovlocker received the Design Turkey Good Design Award in November 2019.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: RovLocker, which is composed of dozens of designed parts, has been developed in the focus of the needs of companies and users. High security parcel box doors are manufactured by aluminum injection method and are designed to last for a long time in under various conditions. The diffusers used to give users clear feedbacks aim to make the light more visible and ensure a homogeneous distribution of light on the part. Therefore, it is produced by plastic injection molding using a special thermoplastic resin. In addition, the special lock system developed to ensure safe delivery to users and companies consists of parts produced by injection molding using zamack material.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: During the development phase of the product, research was carried out with the focus of competing products, cargo companies, user behavior and the public spaces. One of the critical outputs was that competing products could not provide easy maintenance and repair while trying to protect their anti-vandal structures. RovLocker has therefore created a solution that simplifies maintenance and repair while preserving the anti-vandal design. Another critical output was that security perception was revealed as the key point for users and companies. Thus, the locker and its accessories have been designed with the concern of meeting the security perception.
CHALLENGE: Since the product will be located in public areas, it needs to be able to adapt to various environmental conditions such as rainfall, temperature, UV rays, humidity and dust. These conditions are the most critical concerns of the design phase. It also needs to be aesthetically compatible with these different environments. One of the main reasons for having minimal and customizable design is that the product must be able to adapt to different brand identities.
