DESIGN NAME: A Touch of Monet
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential Apartment
INSPIRATION: Claude Monet is one of the foremost painters of France, a master of using color to perfectly express moments of light and shadow. I incorporate his treatment of light and color into my designs in ways that no one has ventured to do before. The interior design of this sample home is inspired by Monet's classic series called Water Lilies, renowned for their dreamy atmosphere and vivid colors, expressed in a refined spatial language.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The colors and hues of the white Volakas marble, white lacquered floor boards, brushed bronze-colored stainless steel, and leather-skinned fill the space with brightness and movement reminiscent of the curves and waves, colors and spatial depth that bring Monets paintings to life.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The layered metal chandeliers resemble bubbles floating up in the water, while the curved transparent backs of the dining chairs convey a similar sense of movement. The blue waves of the abstract painting on the wall add further depth and movement to reinforce the overall design concept. Just this right amount of color accent ties the space together and infuses it with energy. As with Monet’s paintings, up close some parts are a riot of color, yet the overall visual effect is one of balance and serenity.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in 2019, locates in Jiangsu, China.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: These delicate oil paintings present a calm and carefree attitude in contemporary life, inviting the viewer in to their world of ever-changing light and shadow, perceptions and ideas. The living room is centered on a pond-like carpet that resembles a thin tulle floating on the water, with light and shadow alternately revealing and hiding themselves and each other, which imbues the otherwise static living room with a visual dynamic of life flowing through and around. The shapes in the dining area represent flowing water and communication between people.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The property is 130 square meters.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In the master bedroom, a green water lily painting functions as the visual focal point, whose tranquility envelops the entire bedroom. The strong colors are different from what’s usually found in bedrooms, but the blue water and green lily pads under the soft and pure light from the simple metal light fixtures put the eyes at ease and the mind at rest. The literary and elegant atmosphere of the study reflects the sophistication of its owner and user. This styling turns a usually private room into a space that tells the story of a cultural personality.
