| DESIGN NAME: Marcello PRIMARY FUNCTION: Dining Table INSPIRATION: Havani initially started as a Business School project 3 years ago. I wanted to create original designs with bended steel sheets and because most marble slabs are available in 230 to 270 cm length but never to 3 meter, by prolonging the tabletop, I could still provide 3 meter tables. The persistence and tenacity to develop these shoulders, reminded me of a typical sleeveless shirt that is called "Marcelleke&quo UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Available in 4 different types of steel and 67 powder coating colors, this unique frame with its 1 cm thin and elegant legs, can reach lengths up to 3 meters, even with a rare marble top. Marble stone slabs are only available from 230 cm length to 270, but almost never to 3 meter. The prolongued tabletop design of the Marcello solves this problem. The quarterround edge finish flows almost seamlessly from frame into tabletop and guarantees a very comfortable position for users' wrests and forearms. The Marcello table is 100% made in Belgium by local family companies that specialize in the materials individually. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Our methods are based on the 3 main feelings that drive emotional product experience and behaviour. 1. Usefulness: Stability-engineered furniture that's durable and offers practical value, can be useful in multiple ways. 2. Pleasantness: Marcello's design is meant to Delight users with unique Look and Feel effects, whilst eliciting positive emotions. 3. Rightfulness: With generations of experience together with expertise partnerships, Marcello has a beautiful design that is durable and usable with luxurious materials and unique finishes. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in October 2018 in Wortegem-Petegem, Belgium and finished in November 2019, and was exhibited in Maison et Objet in January 2020. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Forged frame from bent and lasered massive steel sheets, stainless steel sheets or authentic Corten steel sheets, with a natural stone, composite stone or wooden tabletop. The frame can be powder coated in 67 Ral colours, in matt or structured finish. Natural stone tabletops are available in 6 marbles, 2 granites and 2 quartzites, most of them with optional surface finishes. European Oak, marble and quartzite are used for indoor. Only granite and Belgian Blue Limestone can be used outdoors but only Granite can be combined with authentic Corten Steel because of characteristics. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 1800 mm x 920 mm x 750 mm, 2200 mm x 920 mm x 750 mm, 2600 mm x 920 mm x 750 mm, 3000 mm x 920 mm x 750 mm. *1000 mm width instead of 920 mm width available as well. TAGS: dining table, design table, diningtable, designtable, marbletable, marble, granite, quartzite, radius, look&feel, shoulders, marble table, steel table, corten steel, weathering steel, bending steel, stainless steel 304, stainless steel 316, 1cm, 1cm legs, elegant RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We had to find the right thickness of steel to match with a possible radius of the stone fabrication. Further on we had to use the old Research & Development tactic, "trial and error", to continue because elasticity occurs when you bend steel. Once that was solved, we focused on lasering another concave design in the legs for design purposes as well as focussing on the seams, which had to be thin and perfectly alligned. CHALLENGE: Sitting at the long side of the table and pushing the table in front of you, a type of minor elasticity shaking occured for approximately 1 minute. From that moment on at prototype 1, every prototype followed was a trial and error to strengthen the design without compromising its minimalistic and thin design.
