DESIGN NAME: Aka Honn
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Japanese Charcoal Grill Store
INSPIRATION: The inspiration comes from the Azuma House designed by Tadao Ando.
The original space has a narrow entrance and there is almost no natural lighting. The designer sets up a central patio in the interior to communicate with the natural environment. External natural elements are introduced into the interior of the building, creating a kind of introverted compression aesthetic taste; and original art sculpture is set in the patio, impressively embodying the cultural connotation of the restaurant.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project is a Japanese charcoal grill store located in the downtown of the city, with narrow entrance and poor lighting. By closing the windows and building a new central patio, the designer combined lighting to create a serene, natural space atmosphere full of Japanese zen temperament, which is in great contrast to the hustle and bustle outside.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The connotation of commercial space work is expressed through space atmosphere, artistic conception and psychological feelings brought to people.
In the project, the new patio atrium is the core of the motion trend. All the functional areas are facing the atrium. Stylistic sculptures, installations, paintings and so on are lined in the motion trend with atrium as the core. In this way, clients can naturally experience the cultural connotation conveyed in the space through the flow of space.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: As a Japanese style restaurant, the designer regards the expression of Japanese culture as the main concern:
Firstly, spatial segmentation: the typical approach of Japanese architecture is adopted. The space is mostly semi-closed. The flow is integrated, and the space is divided into several functional areas.
Secondly, functional layout: the designer regards the interior patio as the central hub, which becomes the focus of sight and the centripetal point of space organization. Dining space, private rooms, bars and other functional sections are distributed naturally around the patio, including 120 seats and a bar area that could accommodate 15 people.
Thirdly, combination of platform and air exhaust: the air exhaust system of the grill is introduced into the overhead floor of the Japanese building, and the soot is discharged through the lower air exhaust system.
Fourthly, use of natural materials: the interior decoration adopts natural stone, wood, which are used for the production of touchable ground, wall and furniture to give clients a natural and comfortable feeling.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The interior area for the project is 400 square meters.
The number of meals for the project is 120.
The number of bar seats for the project is 15.
The kitchen area for the project is 100 square meters.

CHALLENGE: For the commercial space located in the downtown area, how to create quiet and natural atmosphere of Japanese style is a great challenge.
In this project, the designer closes the outdoor space, abandons the interference of the surrounding environment on the interior space, and reconstructs the space structure with the atrium patio as the core. On this basis, the design elements of Japanese style are fully adopted to finally create a sense of space privacy and a unique zen space atmosphere.
