| DESIGN NAME: Drop Design Spa PRIMARY FUNCTION: Jacuzzi INSPIRATION: Nikolai got the inspiration to the design from nature while enjoying Finnish summer in his family's summer cottage and watching rain drops falling to the sea. Functionality and user experience being the guiding principles, he came up with the initial drawings of Drop Design Spa. It was designed in away it is easy to integrate to environment. After careful testing and fine-tuning of the design, Drop Design Spa was launched in the spring of 2019 and is now the forerunner in minimalistic, pure Scandinavian design for jacuzzis. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Drop Design Spa is a masterpiece by top-designer Nikolai Ruola where fabulous design is combined with user experience in a way which brings enjoyment to a completely new level. The possibility to integrate the whirlpool to the terrace together with peaceful and elegant appearance, differentiate Drop Design Spa from its competition. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Drop Design Spa can easily accommodate up to 10 people. It is easy to operate with either the integrated buttons or an application which let's the user to control the functionality remotely. Drop Design Spa is very easy to maintain as its filters require changing only once per year compared to typical weekly maintenance interval. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Initial design for jacuzzis was started already in 2008. For the Spa model design and testing started in Kuusisto, Western Finland in the early 2018 and Drop Design Spa was launched in Spring Fair 2019 in Helsinki. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Design was sketched first in paper and after that done with 3D program including the testing for ergonomics, functionality and user experience. Mold was crafted with CNC milling. This mold was then used for vacuum forming machine. Drop Design Spa is made of acrylic / fibre-reinforced plastic. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width: 2200 mm Depth: 2200 mm Height: 1050 mm Weight: 300 kg TAGS: whirlpool, jakuzzi, spa, peaceful, minimal, rational, sophisticate, functional, elegant, scandinavian RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The ideology for Drop Design Spa's design come from nature combined with minimalistic but yet fully functional user experience. As an end result, Drop Design Spa provides luxury experience with harmony without the typical aggressive looks of jacuzzi. CHALLENGE: Challenge was to keep the whirlpool minimalistic with all the functionality required for massage system, control panel, filtering and cleaning system. Whirlpool only has two control buttons needed for the user while bathing and the rest is controlled with an application.
