DESIGN NAME: Huafa Hills
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential Development
INSPIRATION: The main design inspiration is in from French manor style, which emphasizes the embellishment of building in nature. In order to create luxurious and comfortable living space, the design features
including aesthetic detail, symmetrical layout, which provide a sense of grandeur, romance and elegance to the users. The project eventually creates various spaces categories including open spaces, enclosed spaces and semi-private spaces, concise and atmospheric spaces.
The master planning concept aims to embrace the habitat with a natural setting of lush greenery,
extensive water feature and landscape. Towers and villas sit around the waterscape to enjoy the open
landscape and water view. The vast landscape area and waterscape play an exceptionally important role in the whole project. The building façade is primarily cladded with beige granite to blend into the
natural setting. The subtle façade details and scales are carefully designed to create a harmonious unity of nature and humanity. Sunken courtyard, gardens, terraces, balconies and roof terraces are
strategically provided in the buildings to connect and expand indoor living to outdoor nature to pursue
an extraordinary living style away from the city hectic.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Huafa Hills, located in the north of Zhuhai, benefits from the development scheme in Greater Bay Area
with convenient connection to Hong Kong and Macau. Geographically, the site is sitting in a superior location surrounded by mountains from three sides resulting in a very exclusive and private development. In terms of architectural design, the contemporary classic French style façade properly integrates with the natural environmental setting and landscape. The expression is rich and unique with details that enable the residents to enjoy a ceremonious and luxurious living experience. To conclude, Huafa Hills represents a high-end luxury residential development in a pure and natural environment and is one of a kind in the Greater Bay Area.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Vehicular and pedestrian flow are totally separated. Vehicles enter into basement by ramps near the main vehicular entrance. Residence in all villa or towers can access to their home from basement carpark. The villas are all arranged towards the water feature and greenery fields with connection of pedestrian path. This system allows residences to freely enjoy the vast landscape and waterscape, while convenience and accessibility is not compromised.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project design started in 2014 and construction started in 2015. The overall project completion is expected by end of 2019. The project location is in Zhuhai and the design is done in Hong Kong. The sales office and model rooms are exhibited at the project site in Zhuhai.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Entry to the development is via a club building which is initially used as the sales centre of the
development. Complimenting to the architectural style, the interior design of the entrance building aims to blend naturally with the exterior landscapes, with decorations in soft beige and mahogany tone as well as strokes of metallic highlight to hint the understated luxury style. Upon arriving the entrance foyer through the landscaped garden, an ingenious stone console welcomes incomer by its expressive naturalistic vein. A curve wall with fine leather and walnut finishes guides the way into the main lobby. The composition of art displays and chandeliers in a double-height space immersed in daylight has made a harmonious and noble statement in the main lobby. Ribbed translucent glass and metal screen elements are properly integrated in the space decorated with artworks to further create an exotic accent. The negotiation area is connected to the terrace, which offers a magnificent view of the greenery and introduces natural light into the interior. By blending the interior and exterior space, it is the intention to make the users imagining themselves in a painting of nature and landscape.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The project is comprised of 110 villas and 852 residential units in a site of 213,900 sq.m. with a very luxurious plot ratio of 1. The villas are 3-storey high and the residential towers 17-storey high. All units are provided with over 3m floor height, not to mention double-height volume at major spaces such as foyers, living and dining rooms of villas.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: After the site analysis, the design adopts the ecology and urban design theory to create a luxurious and comfortable living space. To best respect the natural setting and utilize the surrounding environment, the site is divided into two parts by villas and residential towers in accordance with the land contour with the mountain as backdrop. An extensive landscape water feature is designed as the center to hold together different elements in the whole project.
CHALLENGE: There are many factors to be considered in a holistic design approach with respect to the surroundings. Since the project site is surrounded by mountains on all three sides, the design aims to respect the existing nature and contour. The most challenging part of the design is to create a master plan, architecture, landscape settings that minimize the impact to the environment and eco-system, yet integrate human habitat with harmony.
