| DESIGN NAME: YumChina Innovation Center PRIMARY FUNCTION: Kitchen Lab INSPIRATION: Embracing sensibility and rationality: a mixture of functional considerations and innovative creativity UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: YumChina’s new Innovation Center defies limitations while conveying warmth; The efficient office space embraces a clean design aesthetic and is visually appealing; Hearty ash and burl suggests strength and dignity. The exquisitely detailed conference room, public spaces and kitchen innovation center are brimming with imagination, original ideas and creativity. YumChina’s embrace of intelligent design encourages fellowship, sensibility, rationality and food! OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The YumChina Innovation Center is at the heart of YumChina’s efforts to bring healthy diverse food choices to China. In highly specialized kitchens, foods are researched, developed and optimized. Each of the specialized kitchens has been designed to provide efficient, hygienic and thoughtful workspaces. Everything from materials, equipment and ergonomics was considered. Special HVAC, water, power and data systems were developed to fully support the Innovation Center activities. This cutting edge project resulted from the collaboration of the designers, contractors and food experts. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project duration from May 2018 to January 2018. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Innovation Center is an optimization of the creative food experience. The design team carefully examined the food creation process and optimized the space to enhance the workflow and the movement of staff and visitors through the facility. The materials, colors and textures were selected to create an atmosphere that supports the sensory experience of new food creations. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 2500 sq. m. located in Shanghai, China TAGS: Innovation center, Kitchen Lab, Office, Conference room, Package design center, Lobby, gray/white tones RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The Yum China Innovation Kitchen facility is tasked with interpreting, developing and refining the many food products offered by the Yum China family of restaurants. Everything from the ingredients, to the look to the packaging are meticulously considered at this facility. Therefore, all aspects of this facility were also meticulously considered, refined and reconsidered to create a workplace that nurtures the very important tasks of the professionals that labor here creating the future of food. CHALLENGE: Yum China’s new facilities defy limitations while conveying warmth; The efficient office space embraces a clean design aesthetic and is visually appealing; Hearty ash and burl suggests strength and dignity.
