DESIGN NAME: Camel Robot
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Digital Art
INSPIRATION: The goal was very clear, make the "Camel" camel like a robot. So the references come from the world of science fiction, robotics, industrial machinery etc.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Camel Robot is an interpretation of the Camel brand logo. It's a commissioned work for a Camel exhibition and an artistic picture to show on Camel offices.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Glossy printing, COATED FOGRA 39 color profile, plotter preferred.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project Started on November 2017 and finished on January 2018
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Computer Graphics, 3D Modeling, Texturing, and Rendering Design

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To build the camel robot, first I collected images of industrial machinery (tubes, cables, hoses, robotic arms, etc...) sci-fi mechs images of pop culture like (Matrix, Blade Runner, Pacific Rim, Evangelion etc.) and anatomical references of the camels (muscles, bones, etc.). Then the creation process consists of recreating the organic elements, matching it with robotic pieces. The camel has a partially open for a reason: this way we can see the inside, the power supply, the cables, and the elements that brings in the artificial life. This allows the spectator to understand better how it works, giving a sensation we are looking the whole design, inside-outside. The chosen tool is 3D CGI. It allows make it realistic that brings in a more tactile feeling when the spectator sees the design, so all can be built or it can be real. The final piece is on neutral blue and dark color, this way the attention is more focused on the camel, and the main silhouette is more recognizable.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part was finding the balance between how amount of details to add before feeling it busy or overwhelming visually. The same reason as how amount of detail to make it believable and well crafted, but still with a visual hierarchy and easy shape recognition.
