DESIGN NAME: Hilltop House
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential
INSPIRATION: The project theme is overlook the world, inspired by visual perception of geographical location of the building.
As the building is located on the mountain top and at the foot of the mountain lies a large wetland park. The designer transformed exterior walls of each floor that faces the mountain into huge monolithic glass. Floor-to-ceiling glass exterior walls were used in the 60-meter corridor that surrounds the whole building on the negative layer to create spectacular view of the landscape.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The designer needed to take into account the different aesthetic differences and living needs of three generations, because the age difference for the three generations of the owner's family is quite great, ranging from less than 1 year old to over 80 years old. Therefore, careful consideration was required from colour, modelling to function setting of each area. At the same time, the owner hoped to fully embody the landscape advantages of the hilltop residence.
At the same time, the owner hoped to fully embody the landscape advantages of the hilltop residence.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Space architecture conveys a kind of life attitude and interacts well with the relationship between the main space and its surroundings.
The designer transformed the four-story wall facing the mountain into floor-to-ceiling glass. A large garden and a 60-meter-long loop corridor with floor-to-ceiling glass being the outer wall surrounded the negative layer, making the mountains, buildings and trees unified. The spectacular scenery of nature can bring the occupants a healthy and positive attitude.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project Location:
Fishing City, Chongqing, China
Project Duration:
The design process started from 18 December, 2017 to 18 March, 2018. The construction time was from 1 April, 2018 to 30 September, 2018. The project completed on 30 September, 2018.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The designer increased interaction between people and nature, bringing the beauty of nature into the interior. It fully showed the landscape advantages of the house hilltop location.
As for civilization, the designer adopted a large number of symbolic design elements in Chinese culture in interior decoration, such as curved lines, shapes of bamboo leaves and joints, water-themed lighting decorations and so on, integrating the cultural connotation of Chinese people with modern and simple style.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The interior area for the project is 1300 square meters.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The designer focused on the spatial planning of a single-family house inhabited by three generations.
The project emphasized on the interaction between architecture and natural environment.
The designer created an open natural landscape for the building.
The house was inclusive for family members of different ages.
The traditional Chinese geomantic omen (also called Feng Shui ) was embodied in the building.
The traditional cultural elements were embodied in the building.
The designer needed to complete the system management of complex work within a short period of time.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge encountered in the design process was project management. An expansion project of more than 700 square meters and a large number of structural reconstruction projects were carried out because the building was located on the top of the mountain and the construction scope was very narrow. The entire period from design to completion was six months. In the design, there must be no rework or delay. Rich experience and an understanding of the engineering details were required.
