| DESIGN NAME: Aveline Razor PRIMARY FUNCTION: Female Body Shaver INSPIRATION: For almost two decades the company has designed ergonomic men's shaving devices. Over the years there have been numerous requests to design ergonomic handles for women's leg and body shaving, too. The inspiration has always been to make the hand, and the fingers, the instrument and let the blade glide along the skin. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Aveline Razor has a unique ergonomic design. The gliding roller-balls make shaving easy around the knees/ankles and the finger ring, which doubles as the built-in stand, makes it easy to hold, especially for women with arthritis or mobility issues. The push button blade release makes blade changing easy and fast. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Aveline is an easier, more efficient way to shave. The ergonomic handle allows users to hold the unit in various ways as they shave different parts of the body. The finger-ring allows for non-slip shaving and, utilizing the suspension makes shaving around the ankles and knees nick-free. The easy push button blade replacement is simple compared to other razor docking systems; all one has to do is load in the cartridge by putting the stem into the shaft until it clicks. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project started in April of 2016 and finished in May of 2019. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Aveline Razor suspension incorporates three metal gliding rollers into the design, which are commonly found on high end cosmetic applicators. This improves performance and and adds perceived value to the razor. The finger ring also serves as secondary function in that it creates a built-in stand. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Razor is 55 mm X 65 mm X 70 mm TAGS: razor, women's shaver, ergonomic razor, leg and body shaver, female RESEARCH ABSTRACT: From the beginning of the Aveline Razor development cycle, the hardest challenge was to create a blade replacement system that incorporated the multi function pivot of the razor. There needed to be a certain ease-of-use when a customer changed the blade. Simplicity of use was essential though the engineering was complex. The new docking system is intuitive and effective. CHALLENGE: The most difficult obstacle to overcome was the blade cartridge docking system. Most razor handles interlock with the blade cartridge to actually make the pivot. Aveline incorporated the actual pivot onto the cartridge and made for a unique female to male attachment. This mechanism also had to incorporate the side to side pivot action which results in the stem rotating within the body and shaft of the handle unit.
