| DESIGN NAME: Enjoy Life PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence INSPIRATION: The overall design is inspired by fondness for industrial style of the male client and the demand of showcasing his rich collection of figures. In the planning, the space for two children has to be also considered besides realizing adequate storage, the demand of free-flowing and comfortable home as well as achieve the essential functions of a family home. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The client distinctive traits and lifestyle form this special transformation proposal. Combining strong industrial style and the traces of delightful life, the design implements classic elements, materials and retro furniture etc. in compliance with the space characteristics, fulfill both aesthetics and functionality. It also shows the traces of an young heart in different corners and brings freshness and abundance to the senses. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Located on the ground floor public space, the solid wall between living room and kitchen is removed while on the other hand, sliding and folding door are used to transform the original closed kitchen space into a flexible layout which can either be opened or independent. This allows the female client, who loves cooking to be able to take care of her children anytime and creates a vision of openness and permeability for this narrow space. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Iron pieces, off-form concrete, glass, veneer, cement finish SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This project is a four-story residence. The total design area is 212 square meter. The interior planning includes living room, dining and kitchen on the ground floor; master bedroom and changing room on the first floor; s rooms of two children and changing room on the second floor; gym and chess room on the third floor. TAGS: Industrial style, delightful, sense of living, residential design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Fun ideas are injected into the strong industrial style as main theme. The wall of ground floor public area uses raw cement texture as base, matches with metal elements, wood, stone countertops, distressed wallpaper, and leather furniture to create visual layers. The retro elevator door shape of the bathroom of 1st floor is very realistic. The contents of the photo wall on the 2nd floor, can be changed anytime. It shows a playful attitude towards life and conveys free spirit of industrial style. CHALLENGE: During the construction period, the most time consuming problem is the existing restrictions on this building. During the cement finishing period of each room, the designer only discovered that there is only 4 inch distance between the building and the building of neighbor when removing the tiles of the bathroom. This has led into serious water seepage phenomenon. Therefore, it was necessary to provide reinforcement measures for neighbors at the same time.
