RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The project is located at Mawei District, Fuzhou, where enjoys a mixed style of Chinese and Western cultures in areas, such as industrial technology and architectural design, due to the development of Chinese shipping culture.
Taking advantage of local culture, the design integrates Western aesthetics and local shipping culture and adds the particular charm of East Fujian to enrich the depth of culture.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge is to find and produce the ship models used in the space.
As Mawei is the birthplace of shipping culture, wooden ship models and sculptures can highlight the cultural ambience and make customers have an emotional response. However, it's not easy to find sophisticated ship models and craftsmen. To confirm the style of model needs to look through various historical data. Furthermore, it's more difficult to find and communicate with craftsmen.
