DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Sino Ocean Landscape

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Sale Centre

INSPIRATION:
The project is located at Mawei District, Fuzhou, China, where is the cradle of Chinese shipping culture. In 1866, Fujian Shipyard made a courageous act that introduced Western advanced technologies and culture, accelerating the process of China's modernization. Thus, it was known as the "living fossil" of Chinese modern history. Integrated with Chinese and Western cultures, Mawei's buildings then feature a mixed style that not only enjoys Chinese beam and tile, but also Western arch and column.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Based on the shipping culture and natural scenes, the design combines the Western beauty and local shipping culture, and adds the particular charm of East Fujian, hence creating a space that integrates modern aesthetics and Oriental ideology. The perfect combination vitalizes the whole space and enriches its cultural environment.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The project not only adds elements to satisfy the needs of Western modern arts, but maintains the historical essence of Mawei's local culture. From shipping culture and culture of nature to local architecture style, all elements are used visual processing and then added into the design. Simple yet magnificent modern space integrates profound culture, showing the greatness in details.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
Duration: From October 2019 to January 2020 Location: Fuzhou, China

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The designers made a symmetrical layout of black mental lines and used large areas of wood veneer and light-grey marble, which could show a simple yet magnificent space with the charm of Chinese lines. Moreover, warm yellow lights enrich the colors of the space, enhancing elegance and Zen ambience. Ship model artworks and ornaments relating to the water element are used to decorate the interior, which can not only demonstrate the local culture, but make it flexible and full of stories.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The project is located at Mawei District, Fuzhou, where enjoys a mixed style of Chinese and Western cultures in areas, such as industrial technology and architectural design, due to the development of Chinese shipping culture. Taking advantage of local culture, the design integrates Western aesthetics and local shipping culture and adds the particular charm of East Fujian to enrich the depth of culture.

CHALLENGE:
The biggest challenge is to find and produce the ship models used in the space. As Mawei is the birthplace of shipping culture, wooden ship models and sculptures can highlight the cultural ambience and make customers have an emotional response. However, it's not easy to find sophisticated ship models and craftsmen. To confirm the style of model needs to look through various historical data. Furthermore, it's more difficult to find and communicate with craftsmen.
