DESIGN NAME: Poly Tianhuan Garden
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Garden
INSPIRATION: A traditional Chinese garden is a place to recreate and miniaturize larger natural landscapes, where architecture and landscape are blended into each other and creates a multi-dimensional spatial system. It contains the user, takes her/him to different levels of interiority and affects his/her perception. Inspired by the Chinese garden, the project tries to re-generate its main in a contemporary way of design thinking.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project aims to create the artificial green hills in the city emphasizing the multidimensionality of a generative landscaping system where undulating topographic changes and curvilinearity of the surfaces re-engenders the qualities of a natural environment.
The landscape is designed in a way to be the mediator between inside and outside, while expanding itself into the interior, maximizes the connectivity between interior and exterior space, blurs the boundaries between them.
By being designed in a sequential way, the space includes multiple spaces and various landscaping elements to give to the user the opportunity of discovering the space by creating different levels of depths to build a discover-able environment.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The organization system of the open space is based on the notion of continuity. Expands itself into the interior of the building and blurs the boundaries between in and out, it keeps the user in a coherent integrated spatial experience. Takes the landscape as a mediator which also enriches the programmatic features of the project by creating spaces of different activities.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: 2017-2018

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Using natural materials and creating the feeling of being in nature has been one of the main goals of the project. different natural stones, woods, and various planting and landscaping elements are implemented in construction. For the pavement material, white hemp granite is used and in order to build the curvilinear surfaces concrete has used in the project in order to engender smoothness and fluidity of a natural environment. And the perforated metal plate is being used for the furniture.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The area is 19368 square meters

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research phase is developed based on a deep reading of traditional Chinese garden typology, concentrating on its spatial features and landscaping qualities. The green layer is generated based on the idea of multidimensionality but having the main characteristics of a Chinese garden.
CHALLENGE: The landscape design of the project is embedded in a residential site and mainly works as their garden. It connects different blocks with each-other and creates a space of social interaction for different groups of people. Due to its specific programmatic demands, it must be well linked with the selling center especially before selling the apartment units in a public way of functionality. It had to be inviting and welcoming for the people who comes for a visit to buy. While turning itself into a different kind of space after selling the units. As a result, designing of such a landscaping system which corresponds to all of project’s demands needs very high level of flexibility for a project which works as a semipublic space for its temporary life and temporary user but working as a semi private space for its permanent habitants after the selling.
