DESIGN NAME: Coexistence
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Unisex Fashion
INSPIRATION: There was a girl who was 8 years old. She was alone at the corner of a park in Geneva, watching the children playing there. She was confused, the children were speaking French. She could not fit into this group.
20 years later, she became a fully integrated person.
This is my story but your story as well.
In Geneva, people from different backgrounds live mixing together. Sometimes they encounter obstacles due to different cultures, different languages.
They have different perspectives to look at the same object.
Through these perspectives, the truth becomes the lie, the lie becomes the truth.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Coexistence collection 2019-2020 fall, winter is inspired by the values of community life.
In this collection, a mix and match style of HANBOK (traditional Korean costume) merges different colors and materials. The way to dress experimentally gives freedom and creativity to all fronts; a universal message without distinction of language, culture or origin. Diversified materials, as well as the quality of the finishing and the unique style, are an integral part of the DNA of these clothes; all enhanced with a mix of custom patterns that have been printed with calligraphy and multiple colors.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: All designs in this collection are reshaping the Hanbok. They break away from the stereotypes of clothing's definitions by experimenting with their position and their functionality.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in October 2018 in Geneva and finished in
February 2019. It was exhibited in Le Bal des Createurs, Geneva in May 2019.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: I drew two fabric prints, one using calligraphy and, the other, multiple colors. In both cases, the pattern represents the integration. Also, I created a quilted with two different colors of denim for this collection.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This Collection consists of 1 coat, 2 jackets, 1 jumpsuit, 3 pants, and regular M/L size.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: One day, I was visiting the MAMCO (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Geneva) to find inspiration.
I saw a painting containing a multitude of times the letter Y.
Although I thought I saw X, there was only Y, no X.
At that moment, imagining an X in the middle of all these Y, I told myself that this X is like me; a stranger in the middle of all the inhabitants of Geneva.
However, each of these people can feel being an X and see everyone else as Y. Hence, we are all the Y of someone else.
CHALLENGE: I wanted to start from the Hanbok and reinterpret it with a modern image. At first, being so much used to the Hanbok' standards, I was not able to see it differently, to bring something new.
I have tried different approaches; on fabrics, applications,... many attempts to overcome it.
Eventually, the use of denim, reflective materials and cotton printed with various language motifs resulted in a collection combining modern and traditional images in coexistence and harmony.
