DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Sculpting in Motion

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Exhibition Design

INSPIRATION:
Each piece of thread is not only a length of thought but also a medium for connection, stringing imaginations for the space as the body and sight move. Creators, collaborators, performers and viewers have encounters here and share times of creation together.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Located in a corner of the Museum, Sculpting in Motion is inspired by the concept of "exhibit within exhibit". By means of minimum materials for creation and using a simple, economical and unadorned deck as its structure and packaging tape as its fillings, a "spatial container" is enclosed for arts exhibition.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
When we move in a pace, how does our line of sight wander among us and objects and the space? By moving the body and thread, the visitors' physical experiences are visualized.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
2017 June, Taipei

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
It proffers a combination of driftwood and thread-two materials that contrast in texture and yet are complementary. Visitors are thus provided with an opportunity to explore the space and create, constructing a space that varies daily. The wild imaginings of the linkage between the body and the space are thus made possible.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
120 square meter

TAGS:
Interactive exhibition, Taipei Fine Art museum

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Sculpting in Motion subverts existing designs of interactive space. Instead, it allows the viewers to take part, observe, sit quietly and play games. It’s a creation for all ages. The visitors, who act as creators and viewers simultaneously, roam, move and come across each other in it. They are involved in the creation, change the traces that are left there, and constantly transform the work on display.

CHALLENGE:
Visitors are thus provided with an opportunity to explore the space and create, constructing a space that varies daily. The wild imaginings of the linkage between the body and the space are thus made possible.
