DESIGN NAME: The Origin of Love
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Commercial Space
INSPIRATION: The traditional Chinese postpartum care culture emphasizes that mothers shall have sufficient rest, nutrition to restore their health during the first month after birth. So the design of this project emphasizes on the mothers going through this period of postpartum care must be spoiled like queens, much like the degree of care given to babies in this establishment. Therefore, this project design originates from the concept of love, a narrative of the origin and communication of love, as well as the extension of life. The interior was imbued with a sense of joy and natural vitality in welcoming new lives in this world.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a corporate identity design project encompassing interior design, corporate logo, business cards, carry-bag, etc., even including furniture designed for nursing mothers, all of which were to exhibit the love and care towards the postnatal mothers and babies. The designer generated a humble yet glamorous design styling through the earth-tone color scheme, warm timber, metal and white marble material, in voicing our intention to cherish the mothers and very pure love to new-born babies.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: In order to give bright natural lighting for birth mothers during their recuperation period, the building was designed with large-area opening for safety windows. With the structural elements, storage spaces were designed into those elements so as to optimize spatial usage, while maintaining the openness of the interior space. With the layout of entrance space, meal delivery trolley and sliding door of each postpartum care room, it offers great privacy that effectively insulates external noises from the corridor so as to ensure undisturbed rest environment for the birth mothers.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in June, 2018 in New Taipei City, Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In order to comply with the local architectural load regulations, as well as achieving great acoustics to ensure serenity for the recuperating mothers, the partitioning walls are made from acoustic-insulating moisture proof gypsum brick. Furthermore, building materials low in formaldehyde and environmental-friendly flooring materials, are used to ensure compliance with the SGS certification standard for infant care. With the juxtaposition of different materials, it represents our ultimate tribute to conveys an overall warm and loving theme of energy and care.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The design area is of 150 square meters, comprises of 4 room-types in postpartum care room, in compliance with building and fire safety regulations, postpartum protocols of Health Authority. The facilities planned for such postpartum care for the birth-mother residents include welcome lobby, multi-function activity room, mother-and-child play room, hair-washing room, postpartum SPA area, one-on-one consultation room, gym, and open-plan dining and social areas, etc., as well as the baby-care nursery room, observation room, isolation room and baby swimming room, etc.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The designer designed the twin heart shaped rose gold colored logo, as the larger heart representing the affection of the husbands for their wives who shall be spoiled like queens, and the smaller heart represents the babies in the warm embrace of their mothers. With the meaning of logo, the overall interior comprises mainly of white marble that represents the pure love for new lives, infused with the rose gold colors articulating the spoiling affection for the mothers, complemented by the natural tone of green color series in conjunction with warm timber materials of an ambiance filled with love.
CHALLENGE: In contrast to other postpartum centers in Asia region, the layout and circulation of postpartum care center in Taiwan must comply with the layout guideline of the local health authority in truly observing contamination control and zone-isolation policies, so as to avoid group contamination of new-born babies, while planning all required facilities and evacuation routes for the mother residents and those who are not so mobile. Therefore, the layout and circulation planning is much more thorough and precise than those average interior design projects.
