PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Stool

INSPIRATION:
We wanted to use the latest machining technology and the intricate craftsmanship that the Japanese are known for to create the most minimalist stool possible. We also wanted to reduce shipping costs by creating a stool that the user can assemble on their own.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
An elegantly minimalist stool fashioned from sleek metal rods. Using a CNC lathe and the skilled hands of veteran machinists, we fabricated the finely tapered solid stainless steel and brass rods one by one. The resulting piece is a timeless stool whose aesthetic beauty has been maximized by a dedication to minimalism throughout the entire process.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The enduser could build this stool themselves. It is a simply way to build, they only screw each part together. And also, it can be dismantled for transportation.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in 2015 in Fukuoka, was exhibited in Salone del Mobile in April 2015.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The materials of this stool are stainless and brass. We use the high-precision processing machine,is called NC lathe.We fabricated the finely tapered solid metal rods one by one.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The research of this project is what is design and what is art. We think design is from the problem resolutions and art is from within. We wanted make the beautiful products between design and art. The ultimate in minimalist design, this stool is aesthetically pleasing enough to serve as an objet in its own right.

CHALLENGE:
We challenged to pursue the high-precision processing technique to create this stool. All process of creating was the difficult operating machine and the craftspeople operated it.
