DESIGN NAME: Grinding Factory 5Lmeet
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Co-Living Apartment
INSPIRATION: The project is inspired by the Hutong culture. The original neighborhood life in Hutong is the prototype of co-living lifestyle. We want to keep this kind of lifestyle in the project, and bring some new living elements into the Hutong space, so that young people can also feel excited about the symbiosis of the Hutong.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The unique historical background of the project and the historical sense of the original building have made the project very different from other projects. However, our design is based on the design of urban renovation, the integration of new and old, and also for the future functional considerations, use the co-living community model to give the building a new life.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The apartment is connected by three yards, with the entrance made of an arched wooden gate leading into the courtyard, which is divided into the front reception area on the left and the central kitchen on the right. The kitchen faces the ancient trees in the courtyard. These ancient trees are deliberately kept out of the plane layout in order to keep the them intact in the courtyard, and the kitchen is separated from the courtyard with the curved glass curtain wall. Walking along down the reception area, one could find a dining room and a bar.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2017 in Beijing and finished in August 2018 in Beijing.
