DESIGN NAME: Two Parallel Walls
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Designers Workspace
INSPIRATION: The Almond tree outside the window has been the major inspiration to make the space more airy and open to daylight. The fiddle fig indoor plant shares a similar leaf profile as of the almond tree striking a continuity from the outdoor to the indoor space. The custom made leaves inserted in floor are inspired by the plants found around the site.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This 150 Sq.Ft office for a design & build company is a perfect example of how tiny spaces can be designed to fit requirements and create an impression at the same time.
Layout follows the concept of parallel lines with its workstations, lighting layout, brass inlay lines on the floor - all aligned to the two walls.
White terrazzo flooring has inserts of brass leaves maintaining the continuity of the view of plants/trees seen through the window.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: A simple airy space with lot of natural day light and scattered leaves on floor. The indoor plants make the space look more vibrant and spacious.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in July 2018 in Mumbai and finished in October 2018.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Terazzo flooring was studied in depth and the floor ending detail was studied from the Art Deco period to bring in the old world charm to the space. The same was applied in a 50mm thick coat.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part of the design was to scrape off the plaster from the concrete columns which we desired to see in its true raw form. The column and beams were eventually polished like marble to bring the shine.
