Natural Skincare

INSPIRATION:
To highlight the key ingredient, 100% locally grown black rice, the package design emulates the unique shape of black rice grain and a deep purple color from the fresh bran hull. The package beautifully sits the inside palm of hand to handle the cream or essence comfortably. Its unique appearance of the product intuitively conveys the concept of the black rice products, stands out from a competitive multi brand retail store environment and portrays its natural cosmetic product positioning.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Haruharu, meaning everyday in Korean, is a natural cosmetic skincare brand. Its new WONDER Black Rice Line is to boost your daily skin routine with an anti-aging substance, the extract of fermented black rice, to strengthen inner skin vitality and firmness. Once called forbidden rice in ancient China, Black Rice was only limited for the royal and the rich. Dark purple color of black rice shows high concentration of anthocyanin and poly-phenol pigments, which is a powerful antioxidant.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Users immediately notice the core ingredient, the black rice, at a glance. 3 key products differentiate from each other by its outer color. Hyaluronic Cream package mimics deep purple color from the fresh bran hull (outermost layer) of black rice which contains a high levels of anthocyanin, a key antioxidant substances. Hyaluronic Essence uses moisturizing aqua blue color. Hyaluronic Anti-wrinkle serum uses ivory color of the core black rice grain.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in August 2018 in Seoul,Korea and finished in January 2019 in Seoul,Korea and will laugh in Seoul, Korea first in March 2019. The products will be exporting to total 12 countries world wide.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
After many trials and errors, Haruharu produced elegant curves of the riced shaped bottle with multiple layer injection blow mold manufacturing technique. It consists of more than 3 layers of material, so it has excellent preservation function, minimizing deterioration from the outside. It is a suitable choice for Haruharu product packaging to protect contents which can be sensitive to temperature change during exporting more than 22 countries including China, America and Europe.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
As the strong demand for natural cosmetics continues, the natural cosmetic industry becomes competitive with loads of new natural cosmetic brands and products. A new brand, Haruharu, hardly get a noticeable attention and lead new customers to trials for final purchase from this competitive retail environment. Our biggest challenge is to design unique appearance to intuitively represent a core natural ingredient, the black rice, while attracting consumers at the point of sale.

CHALLENGE:
Small-sized, indie beauty brands mostly use existing pre-mold containers from production catalogues. However, Haruharu found a light weighted oval shaped pre-mold container. Based on this pre-mold, haruhaur redesigned a nozzle cap to complete seamless rice grain shaped packaging. Cost of investment was little, but the impact of the design satisfies to beautifully depict a black rice grain shape, stand out among other cream products, and keep the cost low.
