| DESIGN NAME: Glimmer of Grey PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence INSPIRATION: In the design inundated with gray tones, precise line work and detailing of wooden materiality, the finishing highlights in the space such as the original concrete formwork ceiling and marble floor, complemented with titanium-plated copper wall and modern furniture, manifesting an overall softness and purity when coupling with warm timber flooring, in spatially balanced and poised narrative. That consistently tells the story of how space reflects the personal traits and tastes of the client. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Through different facets of details in thinking discourse, every outward appearance of the optimal open space, renders the cement-poured residence becoming a sentimental container. Through a thorough insight into the imagination of the client towards life, in his honest attitude towards living needs and domain spirit, a serene sensory experience has been imbued in the design with balance. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: As the spatiality purity is created from poured-concrete, titanium-plated steel plate, warm timber materials, and white volume, the living room back-wall is made of steel-reinforced and steel-brushed oak molding as a unique elevation. The designer highlights the close connection between material and space, a fresh stream of energy injected into the interior. As the main beam atop the entrance space is softened by the timber ceiling with gradual cadence and extension of visual layers. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This project named, Glimmer of Grey, was inspired by the surface of finished concrete that traverses through the interior where the decision to maintain the original materiality of the concrete reflects its intention in containing the memories and sentiments of the interior and its living program and traces, and when complemented by titanium-plated metal, warm timber materials and minimalistic white volume, the materiality starts to speak volume about the purity of the space. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: In terms of the layout changes, it was changed to three-room format, as one of the bedrooms was converted to a lifestyle room which enables the public domain becoming a flowing L-shape circulation path, while the flexible functional space facilitating the dining, reading and piano-playing programs in the space with visual access but without disturbance, clearly articulating a narrative of materiality through a singular material but different functions. TAGS: Gradual Grey-Scale, Finished Concrete, Rusted Metals, Steel Plate, GLIMMER, Impressive Serenity RESEARCH ABSTRACT: As the interior articulates a stroke of warm energy emanating from the original purity and transparency, every material plays an intricate part in the harmonious symphony of such spatiality, as the natural yet humble ambiance flooding the interior. Light and shadow, not merely manifests the material surfaces, represents the most genuine layer of the space, while these natural elements are articulated in their most genuine and original form. CHALLENGE: As the interior strives to reflect the urban architecture it situates in, the design team consistently thinks over the sceneries people should see once they return home, and in the process of activating such spatial metaphor, the design serves to solve functional and circulation issues, while also being a search into the psyche of the residents, which thoroughly guides the design decision-making process, working towards establishing a great interactive relationship with the natural environment.
