DESIGN NAME: Malo Scandinavian Speaker
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bluetooth Speaker
INSPIRATION: Designed and realized in Sweden, this Bluetooth speaker was inspired by the Scandinavian style by using oak, smooth shapes and bright color.
I wanted to design a speaker that could fit in a modern Scandinavian house.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Malo is a portable Bluetooth speaker, inspired by the Scandinavian style, handcrafted by a french student in Sweden.
It has been designed with the combination of oak and plastic, without unnecessary shapes. The stand brings to the speaker a good sound diffusion and some lightness to the shape with smooth and refine lines.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The malo speaker is for a home use. Its smooth lines and natural color and texture fit perfectly in a modern house. The stand could be improved by adding an induction charger for smartphone in case of marketing.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: I made this project during my internship in the Jonkoping University (Jonkoping, Sweden) with student in Industrial Design in October 2018. I designed and made the prototype in 10 full days.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Plastic part were 3d printed and painted by many white layers.
I used solid oak for the foot and the knob and ten 0.5mm oak layers for the frame. I dipped the layers in hot water to bend them easily. I glued them together and let dry around a foam frame during one night.
The electronic parts were taken from a speaker.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions: 250mmx105mmx180mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The objective of this project was to combine wood and plastic. The CAD model had an important role. It allows me to prepare how to print the plastic parts and to anticipate the woodworking according to the tools I had.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was to fit the wooden and plastic parts. I needed to be really accurate to get a good result.
Moreover, I only had 10 days to design and make it so it was a big challenge for me. I had to be efficient and organized.
