DESIGN NAME: Perceptual Linear Construct
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence
INSPIRATION: Smart management system is embedded into the residential environment as sensors and WIFI are placed above ceiling panels, in addition to voice recognition at entrance, lighting sensor upon entry to the interior, Anti-theft alarm, curtain, air-conditioning, lighting switches, kitchen fire alarm, smart appliance control and mobile device control and messaging via IOT technology, while AI is utilized to provide more assistance, a living style that may arrive in no time.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: As lines construct face which, in turn, creates volume, in space, the singularity, matrix, and extension of lines construct surfaces, as non-linearity infused in the linearity, much like the synergy of the objectivity and subjectivity in the living spaces, hence creating a comfortable environment that bridges the interior and the exterior, while the art adds to the quality of the space. Open and private, linearity and non-linearity, objectivity and subjectivity, black and white, and light and darkness, etc., articulated a rich space.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: In space, the linearity, matrix and extension of lines make surface, and when complemented by furniture, linearity is fused with non-linearity, as whether it be a circle contained within a square or vice versa, it is a union of rationality and sensibility in life.Through simple elements such as composition and colors, it articulates the beauty of ordered phenomenon and balance, as arts elevate the quality of space with smart living adopted, it creates a smart residential environment with natural comfort.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was started in January 2018 and completed in July 2018.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The spatial distribution in modern residence spawns the discourse of dichotomy, the public and the private domains, as entrance, living room, dining room and kitchen are all regarded as part of the public domain where families and friends talk, dine and socialize with one another, whereas private domain is off limit to the external and the public, personal sanctuary for solitude, music listening, reading and sleeping, the utter dichotomy of the public space.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The interior area is of 70 square meters, with a balcony of 4 square meters. In public domain, there is no distinct demarcation between spaces of the past era, as it is regarded as a whole, in both of its physicality and perception, which enhances the perceptual spatial freedom and broader experiences of carefree comfort. With more flexible and recessive design, space usage can be of less hindrance, accommodating for visit by more families and friends.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The extension, verticality, alignment, along with the wooden texture of the ceiling, the folding undulation of the white satin curtain, accentuates how the line work of the wooden grille comes to manifest the richness in the spatial layering. The folding of the surface pivots around as a special tone of the black color maneuvers along the space continuum, while the saintly white surface brings about the contrast, forming the elongated geometric patterns traversing amongst axes, in itself, inducing more fun, as well as, intensifying the visual experience of the space.
CHALLENGE: As the variation of the bookshelf and its volume diversifies, there is a concerted effort in simplifying volumes, hence loosening up the spatial density. The bookshelf behind the sofa is designed to optimize space utilization, and as the book wall of the dining room is made of black metalwork painted to accommodate texts or murals left by all family members. As all levels of the bookshelf are made adjustable to accommodate all usages, the variation, hence the juxtaposition, of the visual levels, becomes a dynamic interplay of visual line work, content display, and functionality.
